Our Story
The Ruffella experience is all about spending more active time with our dogs. Since the use of electrolytes and nutrients are essential for athletic performance, our founders, Matt and Mark, were inspired to provide the same support to our workout buddies - our dogs.
Whether biking, hiking, running, agility training, flyball, or whatever your favorite activity is to do with your dog, electrolytes are key to optimal performance both in the moment and over time. Through extensive research and testing, the Ruffella team developed formulas that help prevent dog dehydration, improve performance, and speed recovery in active dogs.
Ruffella is vet-recommended and comes in a portable, easy-to-use pouch for dogs on the go.
Our Founders
Ruffella was founded by Mark Cunneen and Matt Chalek, seasoned entrepreneurs and friends from their college days.
While training for a once-in-a-lifetime cycling trip to Italy, they shared Colorado trails with people running, hiking and cycling with dogs - but few were carrying water. Denver’s summer sun and heat create an extremely dry workout environment. After riding 25-50 miles a day around Denver during training, Mark and Matt needed to rehydrate and replenish themselves, and they began to wonder about the dehydration risk, health and recovery needs of athletic dogs.
Their ‘ah-hah moment’ persisted throughout Southern Italy, and an obsession for dog performance took hold over 250 miles of rolling road, espresso, pasta...and plenty of electrolytes, of course.

Giving Back
Ruffella supports active dogs of all kinds, and we are passionate about the services canines can provide. We ‘re committed to fueling working dogs who need the nutrients that Ruffella offers. Every year we donate free product to non-profit organizations that drive the training of search and rescue, scent-detection, military, and police dogs.
